The Subaru BRZ proves you don't need a fortune to have a fast sports car. Very few vehicles are left like the BRZ, so we're happy the model exists. While the BRZ is standard in some of its designs, like offering a four-cylinder engine, rear-wheel drive, and three pedals on the floor. Performance
The only engine option for the BRZ is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that outputs 228 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft of torque. The engine is mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic, and all models are equipped with rear-wheel-drive.
According to the EPA, the most fuel-efficient BRZ is the automatic, as it gets around 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Those estimates slightly drop in the six-speed manual models to about 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg for highway.
Design
Inside, the BRZ's cabin boasts a sporty aesthetic with modern technology. In front of the driver is a fully digital seven-inch gauge cluster. While a pair of nicely supported front seats keep passengers securely in place during hard cornering. There's even a sizable cargo area that can hold four tires with the rear seats folded.
Technology
The BRZ has a wealth of tech to enjoy and a sleek and modern-looking cabin. Every BRZ features an eight-inch screen mounted in the center of the dash, which can be controlled by touch or physical knobs and buttons. The system also comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and access to SiriusXM satellite radio.
Safety Features
As a sports car with great speed, safety is essential. That's why the BRZ is equipped with Subaru's EyeSight driver assistance system, which adds forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Currently, it's only available on BRZs with an automatic transmission.
