"Bad boys, bad boys," -- and maybe you know the rest of this iconic disco song. One Wisconsin
town is now equipped in Subaru style to take on those bad boys on the run with
a WRX STI meant to help the police department conquer crime with a car that can
chase down criminals, even if they decide to cross a small stream. The
Greenfield Wisconsin Patrol Division received a courtesy vehicle from their
local Subaru dealership to use in their patrol work.
Before you scoff that of course police want to go fast in a nice ride, the Greenfield police department is taking a cue from England and Australia, both countries where police often patrol in WRXes. WRXes make sense as a police car, when you think about it. They’re affordable cars with a high level of reliability and can handle all sorts of weather. Instead of getting stuck in the snow or rain, police can get where they need to go. Crime doesn’t stop just because the weather is bad. Although small, the WRX also has plenty of room for police gear, like computers, radio, and tactical weapons.
The only downside is that current WRX STI will no
longer be available as soon as the current stock of cars runs out. A redesigned
version will be available soon so if you want to ride in the same model as the Wisconsin
police, you’ll need to make your purchase soon.
The redesigned WRX STI will be revealed at the end of
November, just after the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, at the LA Auto Show. All we
know so far is that prices should be around the same as the current models
available, with only a slight increase.
Be sure to follow our blog with updates as they
become available about where the WRX is headed, as well as the other concept
cars that will be revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show days before the LA Auto
Show. November is going to be an eventful month for Subaru!
