The 2026 Subaru Outback is here, and it's a vehicle worth getting excited about. Completely redesigned for its seventh generation, the 2026 Outback is the first in the model's 30-year history to be built on its own dedicated platform. The result is a bolder, smarter, more capable AWD SUV ready for every road in Northwest Arkansas and beyond.

Whether you're hauling gear to the Buffalo National River, navigating I-49 in an ice storm, or just running errands around Fayetteville, the 2026 Outback is built to handle all of it in style.

A Ground-Up Redesign

The 2026 Outback arrives with a thoroughly fresh look and a cabin that reflects it. The exterior features a more upright front end, high-mounted LED daytime running lights, a boxier silhouette, and a flatter roofline that creates genuine headroom and cargo space. Around back, a wide light bar spans the full width of the lift gate for a look that's instantly recognizable on the road.

Step inside and the transformation continues. A 12.1-inch touchscreen with a faster processor anchors the dashboard, paired with a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster that's customizable across multiple display modes including a minimal Calm Mode, a traditional gauge view, and a navigation map layout. Subaru also brought back physical knobs and buttons for climate control, making them easy to operate even with gloves on.

The 2026 Outback seats five comfortably and delivers 35 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. The load floor is wider and easier to access, and a redesigned roof rail system now supports up to 800 pounds of cargo, giving rooftop gear haulers significantly more to work with.

At 192.3 inches long and 68.1 inches tall, the 2026 Outback is a genuinely spacious SUV that doesn't sacrifice maneuverability.

Two Capable Engines, One Legendary Drivetrain

Every 2026 Outback comes standard with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and buyers can choose between two BOXER engine options depending on how they plan to use it.

2.5L Naturally Aspirated BOXER (Premium, Limited, Touring trims)

  • 182 horsepower / 178 lb-ft of torque
  • Up to 31 MPG on the highway
  • Runs on regular 87-octane fuel

2.4L Turbocharged BOXER (Limited XT, Touring XT, Wilderness trims)

  • 260 horsepower / 277 lb-ft of torque
  • Tuned for performance and serious off-road capability

Both engines pair with a CVT transmission. All trims include X-MODE with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings, plus Hill Descent Control, making the Outback equally at home on slick pavement and unpaved forest roads.

Towing capacity reaches up to 3,500 pounds, and ground clearance starts at 8.7 inches on most trims, rising to 9.5 inches on the Wilderness.

Upgraded EyeSight Technology

The 2026 Outback raises the standard for driver assistance technology with a significantly upgraded EyeSight system. Three forward-facing cameras work alongside new radar sensors to deliver a 180-degree field of view ahead, improving detection of pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles in a wide range of conditions.

Standard safety features across all 2026 Outback trims include:

  • Blind-Spot Warning
  • Rear Cross Traffic Warning
  • Reverse Automatic Braking (newly standard for 2026)
  • DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System

Higher trims add hands-free driving assist, lane-change assist, emergency stop assist with safe lane selection, and pre-curve speed reduction. Touring trims bring the full suite together with Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capability and a Surround View Monitor.

Subaru has been rated the #1 safety brand for six years running, and the 2026 Outback is a big reason why that reputation holds.

Six Trims, One Capable Platform

The 2026 Outback is available in six trim levels, each built on the same capable foundation and tailored to different priorities.

The Premium is where the lineup starts, and it already comes loaded. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the full 12.1-inch infotainment system, the digital instrument cluster, Symmetrical AWD, X-MODE, and the upgraded EyeSight suite all come standard.

The Limited adds refinements like leather-trimmed upholstery, heated front and rear seats, a power driver's seat, and additional driver assistance features for those who want a more elevated everyday experience.

The Limited XT steps up to the turbocharged engine, bringing 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque to the refined Limited package.

The Wilderness is purpose-built for those who take their adventures seriously. It features 9.5 inches of ground clearance, electronically controlled dampers, a rugged front-end design with composite brush guards, StarTex water-repellent upholstery, and distinctive anodized copper accents inside and out.

The Touring brings the naturally aspirated engine together with the most premium interior appointments in the non-turbo lineup, including perforated Nappa leather and hands-free driving assist.

The Touring XT is the flagship, combining the turbocharged engine with every technology and luxury feature Subaru offers in the Outback lineup.
