When you’re in the market for a mid-sized Sedan, it can be difficult to determine which car is best suited for your needs. Plus, they all seem to blur together after a certain point. We totally get it. That’s why the team at Adventure Subaru decided to gather a little info and do a side-by-side comparison of three of the leading mid-sized sedans: the Subaru Legacy, Toyota Camry, and Honda Accord. All three are good cars with a lot of great features like Bluetooth hands-free technology, keyless entry, power windows and mirrors, audio connectivity, etc. But there are a lot of differences between the three when you really get into it, and that’s what we’re going to lay out for you below.
Cost
We’ll start with the first thing on everyone’s mind—the cost. Here is how the starting MSRP breaks down for each vehicle:
Subaru Legacy Starting MSRP: $22,195
Honda Accord Starting MSRP: $22,445
Toyota Camry Starting MSRP: $23,495
Although it’s not a huge difference in price, the Subaru Legacy does come out ahead right off the bat. When you take fuel economy and standard features into consideration, that’s where you really start to see the difference.
Subaru Legacy MPG: 34/25
Toyota Camry MPG: 33/24
Honda Accord MPG: 32/23
When you combine the initial cost with the fuel economy and the higher number of standard features offered in a Legacy, you’ll see that the Legacy clearly offers the best value financially. Of course, there are other things to consider besides just the price—let’s talk about those!
Convenience
When it comes to interior quality and space, the Legacy still rises above the competition. The Subie Sedan has the most total interior volume in its class, along with high-quality interior materials for the most comfortable ride experience possible. In the Legacy, you also get the quietest ride with noise-reducing laminated glass. The Camry and Accord do have slightly larger trunks (by less than 1 cubic foot), but the Legacy trunk provides easy access when you fold the seats down for hauling longer items. The Legacy is also the only car out of the three that comes with All-Wheel Drive—so you can go places in the Legacy that the Camry and Accord can only dream of going.
Safety
Safety is often a huge consideration when it comes to hunting for the perfect vehicle, so this category is an important one. We already know the Legacy is the only car with All-Wheel Drive, but what about other safety features? All three cars offer features like backup cameras, traction control, brake assist, and an abundance of airbags. The Legacy goes above and beyond with the Subaru Starlink system, which includes automatic collision notifications, enhanced roadside assistance, monthly vehicle health reports, advanced diagnostic alerts, and more. Plus, the Legacy is the only full-sized Sedan fit to take on the Ozarks and unpredictable Arkansas weather...especially those dreaded ice storms! The bottom line is this: All three cars offer some good options for safety—but the Subaru Legacy demands it. That’s the Subaru difference.
