We know how important the environment is to Subaru owners, and it's important to us as well. We've only got one Earth, so we have to take care of it. We must do everything we can to limit the impact that we make on the environment, and we must do our best to preserve the beauty that nature has to offer.
Businesses, especially manufacturers, have a greater impact on the environment than most individuals do. That's why Subaru started the Subaru Eco-Friendly Retailer Program.
The Subaru Eco-Friendly Retailer Program is designed to help Subaru dealers reduce carbon footprints and serves as a guide for increased sustainability. The voluntary program has five main focuses: community involvement, energy efficiency, recycling, waste management, and water conservation.
Subaru partnered with Green Dealer Support (GDS), an organization dedicated to assisting dealerships that wish to go green (you can see our dealership on the banner of their homepage!), to establish a point-based inspection for Subaru retailers. Dealers must earn a set amount of points in each of the five categories before they can achieve Subaru Eco-Friendly status.
Standard GDS dealership assessments are extremely thorough. They consist of a minimum of two assessors and require roughly 8 hours in a dealership.
Certified Subaru Eco-Friendly Retailers install fixtures such as occupancy sensors, low-energy light bulbs, programmable thermostats, low-flow faucets, and low-flow toilets to increase energy-efficiency and reduce water consumption. Certified retailers also emphasize recycling to reduce as much waste as possible, and ensure proper disposal of harmful waste such as motor oil, tires, and batteries.
Eco-Friendly Subaru dealers also make a point to be involved in their communities by organizing events and engaging in programs that promote environmental stewardship. Leave No Trace and Adopt A Highway are just couple of the national programs Subaru retailers might choose to be involved with.
There are only a handful of certified Subaru Eco-Friendly Retailers in the country. And we're proud to say that we are one of them!
