It's a Friday night and you’re trying to think of something for you and your family to do. You want something that's fun for all ages, not too rambunctious, but not too tame either. Maybe something fresh and exciting that you don't normally do. Why not mix it up by taking your family to the drive-in movie theater?

Drive-in movie theaters aren’t new by any means, but since they’ve fallen out of fashion, it’s probably been a while since you’ve visited one. Maybe some of your family members haven’t ever been to a drive-in before! The drive-in theater was patented in 1932, but drive-ins have been around since the 1920s. While their heyday has come and gone, drive-in movie theaters are starting to make a bit of a comeback.

For parents, going to the drive-in can be charming or even nostalgic. Drive-ins are an iconic bit of Americana, and it can be satisfying just to experience it.  For children, going to the drive-in is just plain old fun. Most drive-in theaters offer double features, and some might even boast triple features. Either way, you’re getting more bang for your buck than if you were to go to a traditional movie theater.

Drive-ins can also be more fun than a regular movie theater. Instead of having to sit still in silence, you can talk with your family, get up and move around, or even play games or break out the toys for younger children. Some drive-ins even have playgrounds for the kids.

Here's a tip if you have small children: put them in their pajamas before you go. Then it's super easy to put them to bed when you get home. They'll probably be asleep already!

Many drive-ins will let you carry in chairs, board games, and even your own food, which is another clear advantage over a sit-down theater. Your pack list can be as simple or elaborate as you want it to be. It can be just you, your family, and your car or you can opt to bring a full spread of snacks, drinks, and dinner, and your comfiest lawn chairs.

Going to the drive-in is a nice change of pace that can provide fun for your whole family. Plus, you get to spend more time in your Subaru!
