When Subaru was introduced to the U.S. market back in 1965 there were a lot of people who didn’t notice. The first Subaru automobile on U.S. soil was the 360 which was marketed as being “cheap and ugly”.  It only sold 10,000 units -- total -- in the U.S. Today Subaru of America is expecting to sell half a million vehicles by the end of the year!

Part of Subaru’s skyrocketing success in America is a redefined image. Originally people viewed Subaru as a quirky little toy. It wasn’t a serious car that you could rely and depend on. Now, reliability and dependability are exactly what Subaru is known for.

Subaru owners love adventure and being outdoors. If you’re spending a lot of time outdoors then you need a car that you can rely on. That’s why Subaru is becoming an increasingly popular choice among outdoor enthusiasts. Subaru is no longer quirky. It’s the vehicle you buy if you want to go on adventures.

Another contributing factor to Subaru’s rising sales is the rediscovered love for outdoor recreation in the U.S. Rock climbing, mountaineering, backpacking, camping, paddling, and the like are all gaining more and more popularity.

Ultimately, the reason for Subaru’s crazy 33 consecutive month streak of impressive year-over-year sales is that they make great vehicles. Every model in Subaru’s line has received top safety ratings, they all come with all wheel drive and traction control, and they last forever.

By the end of the year Subaru expects to sell 500,000 units in the U.S., 40,000 more than they had originally expected! If they reach the goal, it will be the first time in Subaru’s history to hit the half-million mark in the United States. Last month alone there were 50,246 Subaru vehicles sold. That’s over 5 times as many as the 360's total sales, in just one month!
