How do you know that you've made a great performance car that a rally car driver would love? You put four-time World Rally Champion Tommi Mäkinen behind the wheel and have it put it to the test. Watch in the video below to see just what Mäkinen does to the WRX to see if it's up to speed:

If smoking tires and a thumbs-up tell you anything, the newest model in the WRX STI line is a success.

Mäkinen is one of the world’s most successful rally car drivers. He’s tied for second for the most championships in the WRC and is fifth in the number of events won. He’s had a video game and a limited edition car made in his honor. During the 1990s, Mäkinen was at the top of his driving form and dominated many of the events and championships on the WRC circuit.

Mäkinen retired from competitive racing after driving for Team Subaru at the end of his career. Early in the development of the WRX, Mäkinen took the prototype out for a spin on the Nürburgring. It’s good to see that Mäkinen believes that the production car lives up to the potential of the protype and is an advancement of the Subaru WRX line.

What can you expect from the Subaru WRX, according to Mäkinen? You get a car that begs you to go faster because it has such confidence, where you can feel the wheels in your fingertips when you’re driving. Want to see what Mäkinen means? You’ll have to come test drive one for yourself.
