On Wednesday February 09, 2011, Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas experienced an incredible snowstorm. The following video demonstrates how Subaru's Symmetrical All-wheel Drive system performs in the deep snow.
Over the course of the day, this 2010 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited was used to pull a Jeep Cherokee out of a ditch and a Toyota 4-Runner off Mt. Sequoyah. It was also used to haul dogs, snowboards, groceries and supplies from one side of Northwest Arkansas to the other.
People often ask what the VDC (Vehicle Dynamics Control) button does. VDC is a very sophisticated system which keeps your Subaru traveling along your intended path. In part, it does this by preventing your wheels from spinning at different speeds.
When climbing a steep snow or ice covered hill, turning VDC off will prevent the system from applying the brakes and causing you to lose momentum.
