Many of us treat our vehicles like mobile closets. We toss clothes, shoes, Frisbees, books, or whatever in the backseat fully intending on taking care of it later. Only, later is a relative term and you might never end up taking care of it! However, it can be pretty easy to keep your vehicle neat and tidy.
The best way to keep your rig clutter-free is never to leave clutter in there in the first place. When it rains it pours, and it doesn't take more than a few items to turn into a sea of things that occupies your vehicle. Whenever you get home at the end of the day, make a point to carry in any items that don't belong in your vehicle.
Some folks like to keep an emergency kit or other items in their vehicle at all times. This is a good idea, but all the stuff you're hauling around with you doesn't amount to much if you can never find it! Have designated areas for specific things. Many Subaru vehicles have compartments that are ideal for storing things such as an emergency road kit.
If you're the type of person who seems to attract clutter, simply remembering to empty your vehicle might not be enough. Set a day aside every month to clean out your vehicle. If you get in the habit of cleaning your car out regularly, it will help make sure that clutter doesn't take over.
Typically clutter is viewed as harmless. It's just a little mess, so what harm could it possibly do? Let’s say you’re driving down a steep-grade hill when you need to brake suddenly. Only that Nalgene you forgot you left under your seat rolls under the brake pedal and you can't stop! Or you make a sudden stop, and the curling iron you keep for hair emergencies flies through the air and hits you in the eye. Scenarios like these are possible, so why not lower the possibility by keeping your vehicle free of clutter?
