In just under a week, Subaru will pull the covers off of the all-new 2015 Subaru Outback at the New York Auto Show. Based on the Legacy model that was unveiled in February, a more rugged version is about to hit the streets in the form of the 2015 Outback. While what's under the hood has yet to be announced, we expect it to be very similar to the 2015 Legacy.
The 2015 Legacy has a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder boxer engine with Subaru’s revolutionary CVT system and all-wheel drive system. We expect that the 2015 Outback will have a similar setup and produce around the 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque that you find in the new Legacy. It’s possible too that the Outback will have the optional 3.6-liter, six-cylinder engine that you can upgrade to in the 2015 Legacy.
The fuel economy of the Outback will be around the same as the Legacy, though maybe with a bit less efficiency because of the extra weight for the hatchback—though we’ll have to wait for the numbers to find out exactly. We expect the Outback to be in the same range as the Legacy at 26 mpg in city and 34 highway.
Subaru has released a single teaser photo of the new Outback, which you can see above. We expect the rest of the car to look as sleek and modern as the Legacy but with a slightly tougher looking exterior and a more rugged interior ready to take on whatever you throw at it.
Subaru will unveil the new Outback on April 17 at the New York International Auto Show and we'll recap exactly what the new 2015 Outback has to offer as soon as the news comes out. Be sure to follow along and check back for the latest here!
