We mentioned that Subaru presented the EyeSight driver assist at the recent Consumer Electronics Show -- but what exactly is EyeSight and why do you need it?

EyeSight is a new system that uses two cameras to create a 3D image of what is in front of your Subaru. It can track how close an object is to you.

Unlike other systems that use infrared to detect objects, Subaru found that these 3D cameras can see more detail and make smarter choices. For instance, a Subaru with EyeSight can tell if an object is a person on a bike crossing in front of you or if it is another car that suddenly stops in front of you. This means that you’ll be safer than in other vehicles with similar systems.

Braking assistance isn’t the only feature EyeSight provides. EyeSight driver assist helps in a number of areas:
  •  Pre-Collision Braking System
  •  Pre-Collision Brake Assist
  • Pre-Collision Throttle Management
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane Sway and Departure Warning
  •  Lead Vehicle Start Alert
In other words, your Subaru with EyeSight can stop your car if you’re going to hit something, help you stop if you need to, help you avoid being rear-ended in a pile up or driving over a parking barrier, help you maintain both speed and distance when using cruise control, prevent you from swaying in lanes, and tell you that you’re holding up traffic at a green light.
