Starting under the hood, the new WRX has the advantage with
an all-new twin-scroll turbocharged, direct-injection 2.0-liter Subaru Boxer
engine. The new engine is smaller than past WRX engines and it is mounted lower
in the engine compartment than previous models—which means better balance.
Comparing the engine to V-style engines in other comparable cars and the 2015
WRX has the best engine balance.
The engine also starts at a low rev rate to give drivers the most power out of the rev range in the 2015 WRX. The newly
designed Sport Lineartronic
Transmission brings flappy-paddles to the WRX for fingertip shifting in
seconds in 6- or 8-speed manual mode. In a contest between a double-clutch and
the flappy-paddle, it’s anybody’s game. If you’re more of a purist, the 6-speed
manual comes standard.
The handling of the WRX is very different than past WRX
models with a 41% stiffer unibody and
a 20% reduction in body roll combined with a high performance suspension.
Subaru’s all-wheel drive is, of course, standard, and the new Vehicle Dynamics
Control with Brake Vectoring makes cornering even tighter for the best lines.
The steering ratio of 14.5:1 allows you to take as quick a line as possible.
Add in larger brakes at 12.4” and it’s a recipe for a great, but safe, time.
Of course,
practicality is always part of the Subaru. With more passenger room than past WRX models and 60-40
split seats to access the trunk, you can fit just about anything you need to
inside the 2015 WRX. The flat trunk floor and wider rear doors make it easier
to pack in what you need too.
As we’ve said before, Subaru listened to what critics and
fans said about the WRX in the past and significantly upgraded the
interior. A 440-watt Harman Kardon
audio system with 9 speakers, a full-color 4.3-inch multifunction display,
performance seating, a leather-wrapped flat-bottom sport steering wheel, and
beautiful electroluminescent gauges take the WRX to the next level.
