The internet is full of rumors of a new Subaru BRZ tuned by
STI, especially after Subaru intentionally leaked some still photos of a tS
tuned BRZ that was recently showcased in Japan. The Subaru BRZ tS features
modifications to the bodywork as well as the suspension for increased
performance.
STI stands for Subaru Tecnica International and is a branch
of Fuji Heavy Industries, the same company that owns Subaru. As the motorsports
division, STI is responsible for tuning Subarus for motorsports. You'll
remember that we often write about Rally America with David Higgins and his
team but STI played a pivotal role in Subaru's World Rally success as well as a
number of other international motorsports.
Most famous for the modifications to the WRX, the STI badge
is known for bringing more power, handling, and control to stock Subaru cars so
people are very excited about the potential of a Subaru BRZ STI. While it still
remains to be seen just exactly what types of modifications will be available
on and STI version of the car, we think it will increase power, handling, and
help increased overall performance of the BRZ.
We expect to see body modifications like a bigger fin in the
back for increased thrust for better rear wheel drive handling, modifications
to the suspension system for better turning with less roll as we've seen on
other STI models, and more power. Many rumors across car blogs are talking
about another 100 hp of power but we won't know until Subaru reveals the STI
version.
L.A.'s auto show will likely be the venue for the reveal
which is in the last week of November after Thanksgiving. While that seems like
a long time off, it'll be here before you know it.
