Subaru vehicles are more popular in the United States than ever before. U.S. Subaru sales keep climbing and don’t show any signs of slowing down. In fact, Subaru of America, Inc. has outdone itself in sales for nearly 4 years straight (https://www.adventuresubaru.com/blog/2015/september/11/Subaru-Number-45.htm). But rather than just do a happy dance and revel in the accomplishment, Subaru is looking to capitalize on the recent success and continue to grow in the United States.

Last week, Subaru announced plans to expand in the U.S. by investing in the Indiana plant. Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc. (SIA) has played an important role in building Subaru's success in the states ever since the plant began production back in 1989. Subaru of America, Inc. is looking to increase the number of jobs and increase the number of vehicles produced at the Indiana factory in order to meet the growing demand for Subaru vehicles. Annual Subaru sales have almost doubled since 2011.
Current plans call for $140 million to up the vehicle production and add jobs for workers. Subaru looks to increase vehicle production from the current 300,000 vehicles per year to 400,000 vehicles per year. The increase in production is expected to bring an additional 1,200 jobs at the plant. If everything goes according to plan, these goals will be met within the next two years.
This $140 million investment is a great decision by Subaru of American Inc. SIA has been a zero-landfill plant for more than a decade, so increased production means more sustainable jobs for U.S. workers. Of course, it also means that there will be more U.S.-made Subaru vehicles on the road.
While the suggested improvements will help meet the current demand for Subarus, those improvements might not be enough to keep up if the demand continues to rise. The increasing popularity comes from the fact that people are beginning to recognize just how great Subaru vehicles are, and the company will have to do what it can to keep up!
