However there are some things that can ruin your driving experience no matter how great your vehicle is. You can be cruising around feeling like a million bucks one minute, and cursing and grumbling the next. Here are a few things that can ruin your drive, and what you can do to help handle them.
Getting a flat tire. Sometimes this just simply can't be avoided. You can’t always foresee a blowout, and unless you’re part eagle, you probably won't be able to spot a nail in the road before it's too late. You can take steps to make flat tires less likely, though.
Make sure that your tires are filled to the correct pressure. Keep an eye out for potholes. Slow down when driving through construction. Replace your tires as soon as they need to be replaced. Tires that are past their expiration date are more likely to fail than those in good condition. You should also carry a fully filled spare, a jack, and a tire iron at all times just in case you get a flat. If you have AAA, be sure that you have their phone number and your membership is up to date before taking a long road trip.
Running out of gas. In most cases this requires some serious lack of attention, but on occasion you might hit a hundred-mile stretch of road without a single gas station. If you're low on gas, go ahead and fill up. You can wait until the gas light comes on if you're driving in town, but that's risky business when driving on the interstate. Always check your route before a trip to see if there are sections without gas stations. Carrying an empty gas can just in case is never a bad idea.
Getting a ticket. Speeding to your destination might save a handful of minutes off your trip, but it can quite literal cost you. Unless spending money when you don't have to is one of your favorite pastimes, avoid paying a hefty fine by following posted speed limit signs.
A dead battery. You’re making good time, hitting every green light, the radio station you picked has been on point, and you decide to stop and get gas. You stopped the pump on $30.00 exactly, and you're on top of the world! But then your car won't start. A dead battery can ruin anybody's day. Occasionally check your battery's charge and always replace your battery as soon as it starts showing signs of struggle. It's always smart to carry jumper cables as backup.
Road rage. Not only can this ruin your drive to work, or quickly darken the tone of your road trip, but it can also lead to dangerous and reckless behavior. Maybe someone is checking their phone at a fresh green light or someone cuts you off without using their turn signal. There are countless things that could cause frustration, but just keep in mind that getting livid doesn’t accomplish anything.
