It's no secret that the folks in Colorado are fond of Subarus. But when you factor in the state's mountain terrain with frequent inclement weather, Subaru seems to be the perfect choice of vehicle.
There's a joke that Subaru is the state car of Colorado. Each of the 50 states has a state flower, a state bird, a state tree, and lots of other state things, but none of the states actually has an official state vehicle. Saying that Subaru is the state car has always been more of a humorous acknowledgement that Subarus are extremely common in the Centennial State.
Pickups have been popular with Colorado ranchers for ages. Recently however, you'd be just as likely, if not more likely, to spot a Subaru than you would a truck. So it comes as no surprise that the Subaru Outback has surpassed the Ford F-150 as the best selling vehicle in the entire state of Colorado.
There are many possible explanations for how the Outback took the crown and title for top selling vehicle.
One is that the Outback is simply made for the state. The Outback is equipped with AWD that can handle icy mountain roads, and has plenty of cargo room for just about any outdoor activity you could fathom. In addition to the Outback’s go anywhere and haul anything capabilities, it is one of the safest vehicles you can buy, perennially earning Top Safety Pick ratings from the IIHS.
A Torque News article suggests that the influx of young and active adults moving to Colorado may have played a role in the Outback’s number one status as well. Colorado appears to be one of the fastest growing states for people between the ages of 18 and 34. Many of these people are drawn to the wealth of cycling, hiking, climbing, fishing and other outdoor recreation opportunities the state has to offer. People leading an active and healthy lifestyle want a vehicle that can keep up, and the Outback is just that.
