If someone asked you, "What U.S. town has the highest percentage of Subaru vehicles?" what would your guess be? Maybe Denver? Possibly Portland? Could it be Seattle? Those are all good guesses (though none of them are No. 1), but no matter what your answer is, you’re probably making that guess based on the city's close proximity to outdoor recreation, and reputation for environmentalism. Those are, after all, two of the big values Subaru owners hold dear.

So which towns have the highest percentage of Subaru owners?

According to the Nielson Scarborough market-research firm, these are the top six U.S. cities for Subaru owners:

  1.  Spokane, Washington: 10.3%
  2.  Seattle, Washington: 10.1%
  3.  Hartford, Connecticut: 9.9%
  4.  Denver, Colorado: 8.3%
  5.  Portland, Oregon: 8.1%
  6.  Albany, New York: 8.1%

The list looked at the surrounding metropolitan areas of these six cities to see what percentage of drivers owned a Subaru vehicle. Spokane was the highest with more than one out of ten people driving a Subaru. Portland and Albany shared fifth place with 8.1%.

According to the survey, the national average for Subaru ownership is 1 out of every 35 drivers. Every city on this list posted numbers significantly higher than the national average. Both of the Washington cities were more than 250% more likely to own a Subaru than the U.S. average.

This Nielson Scarborough list of Subaru-friendly cities probably isn't very surprising (with maybe the exception of Hartford). The cities on the list are in close proximity to hiking and biking trails, mountains, rivers, and lakes, and have a strong association with outdoor recreation.

Subaru vehicles are great for those who love the outdoors, and with Subaru's rising popularity, you can probably expect to see more Subaru vehicles everywhere you go. They're pretty popular right here in Fayetteville, Arkansas! Who knows, maybe we’ll see Fayetteville on the next list!
