Many Subaru fans look forward to two events during the course of the year. Those events are Christmas and the announcement of the new Subaru Forester. The Forester is the most popular vehicle in the Subaru lineup, and the 2016 Subaru Forester looks to be just as good as it’s ever been.

Pricing and specs were released for the new Forester last month. The 2016 Forester will continue with the fourth-generation design that was introduced with the 2014 model. The 2016 Forester 2.5i base model will start with an MSRP of $22,395, a slight increase over last year’s model.

The 2.5i model will also come in Premium, Limited, and Touring trims. In addition to the four Forester 2.5i trims, the new 2016 Forester will also be offered in a couple of turbocharged trims. The Forester 2.0XT will come in Premium and Touring trims, and boast a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.

While the 2.5i model won't have the beast of an engine found in the 2.0XT model, it still has plenty of power with a 170-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Both the 2.5i and turbocharged 2.0XT engines in the 2016 Forester will, of course, be of the BOXER variety.

Last year's Forester earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the highest possible rating given by the organization. The 2016 Forester will build on the same EyeSight System, which helped earn last year’s model the Top Safety Pick+ rating, by adding Steering-Responsive Fog Lights to the Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Pre-Collision Braking, and Lane Departure and Sway Warning.

The 2016 Subaru Forester will also come equipped with Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. If you're unfamiliar Subaru’s hallmark drivetrain, it's what allows Subaru vehicles to excel on any type of terrain in any type of conditions. However, the added control doesn’t take away from fuel economy. The 2016 Forester gets an estimated 24-mpg city and 32-mpg highway.

The new Forester will also come equipped with the STARLINK infotainment system, which gives the driver hands-free control of news, music, navigation and more.

While fantastic resale value is not exclusive to the new 2016 Forester, Foresters are renowned for retaining resale value. A report from the NADA named last year's model as one of the top reselling vehicles. We’ll see if the new Forester makes that list again this year!
