Subaru typically likes to build vehicles where they are going to be sold. Well, at the very least on the same continent. It’s not really practical to do some small batch type Subaru assembly in each and every town that has a dealership. If you're going to buy a Subaru in the United States, it was probably made at the Subaru plant in Lafayette, Indiana. However, that's not the case with the XV Crosstrek.

The Crosstrek is manufactured in Japan and then shipped to the U.S. where there is a huge demand for the crossover SUV. While Subaru would have liked to build the vehicle in Indiana, the facility doesn't have the capacity, and producing the Crosstrek in Japan was more economical for the company. Instead of producing 65,000 Crosstreks a year at the Indiana plant, Subaru will move production the Gunma plant in Japan.

While the Crosstrek won't be made in the United States, Subaru doesn't plan on abandoning local manufacturing. The XV Crosstrek is an exception to this strategy. There were too many constraints to allow U.S. production of the vehicle, but this isn't a heralding of a complete shift.

The XV Crosstrek has been an instant hit with U.S. car buyers. This isn't a complete surprise. It's big enough to fit all of your camping gear, or to strap a canoe or kayak to the top, without being too big. Not only is the Crosstrek the perfect size, but it also gets up to 34 miles per gallon and comes with all the peace of mind from the reliability and longevity that Subaru is renowned for.

The engineers didn't stop at performance, though.  The Crosstrek is beautiful and incredibly comfortable. You might not care about the looks or comfort of a vehicle if it is an incredible machine, but with the Crosstrek you get to have it all!
