Most people don't really think about the shape of the states. You could probably sketch out your home state and then some of the truly recognizable ones like California, Oklahoma, or Texas, but if someone told you to draw West Virginia or New Hampshire, you might be in trouble. However, the History Channel has a show that is all about the way that states are shaped.
How the States Got Their Shapes is hosted by Brian Unger, who basically drives around the country talking to different people and telling the history of how our states came to be the way that they are. Everything from politics to weather to mountains and rivers have shaped how the United States has formed.
As interesting as the show is, we were excited to see that the vehicle of choice for the program is a Subaru Outback. The people in charge of the show definitely did their homework, because there's no better vehicle than a Subaru for traveling across the U.S.
What does a vehicle need for an extended road trip?
It needs to be reliable. You can't have your vehicle breaking down in every other state. Subaru vehicles have developed an incredible following thanks to unrivaled reliability and durability.
It needs to be to be safe. Whether you're in your hometown or halfway across the country, an accident is bad news. You want your vehicle to be as safe as possible. Every vehicle in the Subaru line up has received top safety pick ratings from the IIHS.
It needs to be comfortable. Having to stop because you need gas is one thing but you shouldn’t have to stop frequently because your car is giving you back problems. If you sit in a Subaru, you won’t want to get out.
It needs to have cargo space. You need to have enough space to haul your clothing and gear without feeling like you're driving in a closet. It’s hard to match the cargo room in a Subaru.
It needs to handle any type of condition. Whether it's snow in the mountains or mud in the country, you don't want to get stuck when you're far from home. Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD will make sure that you can get anywhere you want to go.
