There have been some truly strange endurance contests over the years. Sometimes, as is the case with the World Sauna Championship, the contestants are in it for the fame, pride, or glory. Other times, people compete in these strange events to win a new car. A man in China stood on one leg for nearly 7 ½ hours to win a BMW.
A Subaru dealership in Montana held one of these endurance competitions, although it was nowhere near as outlandish as cooking in a sauna or doing a Karate Kid impersonation.
They called the contest "Live In It To Win It". Four contestants literally lived in a Subaru Legacy, trying to outlast each other. The competition ultimately came to an end, and a winner was crowned. A man named Al Francetich stayed in the Subaru Legacy for 392 hours and 20 minutes, or just over 16 days!
Subarus are comfortable, but that’s still an impressive feat. The contestants had a ten-minute break for everyone two hours to get out and stretch, use the rest room, and rotate the seating arrangement. That's not what most people have in mind when they think of living in a Subaru.
For car campers, living in a Subaru means spending three days out at a campsite, exploring nature and playing in the great outdoors. They're not pulling up to camp, cranking the parking break and waiting for two hours to stretch their legs.
Others take living in a Subaru to be more literal. There are countless photos and instructions online showing how to build sleeping platforms for Outbacks and Foresters posted by those embracing a nomadic adventurist lifestyle. If properly equipped, a Subaru can basically be a minimalistic, conveniently sized camper. For these folks, living in a Subaru is roaming from town to town, and visiting national parks across the country.
