Sometimes people think that servicing a vehicle at the dealership will be too expensive, or maybe that it's not any different from going to a regular auto mechanic. They figure that service is service no matter where they go, so it doesn’t matter where they take their vehicle. But not all service is created equal, and there are some clear advantages to taking your Subaru to be serviced at a dealership.

One of the main advantages that dealerships have over a 3rd party auto shop is the fact that they specialize. Dealerships work with vehicles made by a specific auto manufacturer rather than whatever randomly rolls through their bay doors. They know exactly how those vehicles work, and how to fix any problems. Having this type of specialized expertise is especially important for Subaru vehicles.

Toyota sold over 10 million vehicles last year. It's probably safe to assume that most mechanics in most auto shops will see a Toyota every day. Subaru, on the other hand, is one of the little guys. The company sold just over 500,000 vehicles in the U.S. last year, which was a record high. Some shops might see a Subaru as seldom as every other week.

Subarus are made differently from other vehicles, and when you consider that most mechanics don’t spend a lot of time working on Subarus, those differences are even more significant. For example, Subarus are built using Boxer engines. There are very few other vehicles out there that use this style of engine. It's not very likely that some random mechanic has a thorough understanding of boxer engines.

The fact that Subaru dealerships hire qualified technicians who are specifically trained to work on Subarus is another reason why you should get your Subaru serviced at a dealership. Subaru technicians have more knowledge and a deeper understanding of Subaru vehicles than an average mechanic.

Some people even think that they can look up how to fix a problem online and do it themselves. The DIY approach is certainly a popular method, and while it might be possible to perform some types of minor maintenance on your own, it’s not always a good idea. You often need special tools and skills to work on a vehicle, especially one as unique as a Subaru. The time involved and potential danger of exacerbating the problem makes it less convenient than it might initially seem.

At Adventure Subaru, we work to create great relationships with our customers and their cars. That includes offering exceptional care and service. Bring your Subaru back to us for repairs.
