Subaru may be known for their wagons, but the Legacy sedan is no joke. The Subaru Legacy brings more to the table than other sedans with great handling and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive that will take you beyond the pavement and down whatever road you may come to.

While other models in the Subaru line look like they're designed for play, the Legacy has a more sophisticated appearance. But you've probably been told since grade school that you can’t judge a book by its cover. Looks aren't everything, and while the Legacy certainly has looks elegant, it is more than capable of getting out and playing with the rest of the Subaru lineup.

The Legacy was first introduced to consumers in 1990, and you could have your pick of sedan or wagon. The four-wheel drive Legacy wagon was so popular that it in 1996 it became the Legacy Outback, which in 2000 became just the Outback that we all know and love today.

Up until 2007, the Legacy and the Outback were both available in sedan or wagon options. After that year however, the Legacy would only be available in a sedan and the Outback only available in a wagon. This made the two models complete separate from one another.

The Subaru Legacy has made some pretty remarkable accomplishments over the years.

  • In 1989, a turbocharged Legacy RS Sedan set a 100,000 km world record. The Legacy maintained an average speed of 138.7 mph for 18.5 days!
  •  In 1998, Subaru set a world speed record for a mass-produced turbo charged station wagon. The Legacy Wagon clocked 168.1 mph.
  • The Alcan Winter Rally is a truly burly race, and the Legacy and Outback have managed to win it a total of 4 times in 1990, 1992, 2002, and 2006!
  • In 1990, the Subaru Legacy became the first ever Subaru made in America. Today, the Legacy is still made in the very same plant! This year’s 2015 model marks the 25th anniversary for the Subaru Legacy, and it's the best yet!
