When you pay more for premium racing features, you want to
know just how much they’re worth. So Road & Track pitted the WRX and WRX STI against each other in a series of tests including technical readings from a Dyno test to compare the horsepower and
torque between the two and to look into turbo lag for the WRX STI. Then they
look the two vehicles out on the track to test them in driving conditions to
find out just how fast they can go from a zero start and from a rolling start.
You won’t be surprised to find out that the WRX STI is the racier of the two.
Even if you're not excited by the mechanics behind horsepower
and torque and don’t understand the physics principals behind them, anyone can
see just how much faster the WRX STI is than the WRX. It’s really fast. If you
look at the graph at the bottom of the article, you’ll notice that as the distance
gets longer, the WRX STI shaves seconds off the time it takes the WRX to get up
to speed—which means the WRX STI’s performance engineering is doing its job
well.
A local review in a small newspaper gives an intimate look
at the STI and why the car is such a great choice for enthusiasts.
The review is written in a style unlike many other reviews but we think that
those who appreciate what the STI has to offer will likely also appreciate the
frank honesty of the review. In the end the reviewer concludes that driving the
STI at its limits is like holding a bear by the ears and is highly recommended.
If that sounds like something you’re interested in giving a
go, be sure to stop by for a test drive of the new 2015 WRX and 2015 WRX STI.
