Motor Trend reviewed the all-new 2015 Subaru WRX and came to some conclusions that might surprise you. While some members of the gearhead world have passed premature judgments on the CVT, they say, it suits the new WRX well. The CVT system isn’t as quick as a manual on the track, which isn’t much of a surprise, but it makes the car fun and easy to drive for everyone. The new, firmer suspension does change the way the car drives significantly compared to past WRX models, Motor Trend’s reviewer says, but that’s not a bad thing.

With the new steering and transmission made for eating up corners, the WRX doesn’t have as much roll as previous models in a corner but instead zips right through without hesitation. The old model, the reviewer writes, “would roll, hunker down, and then power out of a corner” but the new model doesn’t have that issue. Less roll means more stable corners and quicker driving, especially on track days.

The CVT system allows the driver to set different types of driving experiences, from the Sport# to the eco-friendly simulated shift types. If you’re on a weekday run to take the kids school, you can put it into eco-friendly mode to save on gas. On the other hand if you’re on the perfect twisty road that calls for a bit more fun, you can set it to Sport# mode and make your knuckles turn white with excitement.

The biggest difference between the new 2015 WRX and past models is that it is more flexible for daily life and families, not just that the feel of the vehicle is different. Compared to other sedan WRXs of the past that were a teenage boy’s dream, the 2015 WRX can fit into your life, instead of making your life fit into a WRX.

The 2015 WRX is completely different from WRXs of the past and is well worth a test drive.
