Yesterday at 11 a.m. at the New York Auto Show Subaru unveiled the new WRX concept car. Some images of the car were leaked early but, as with all concept cars, it's best to wait for the official unveiling. Some people thought the leaked images were faked because it's such a dramatic move from Subaru. The biggest thing to note is that most concept cars look like things from outer space that don't even feasibly look like they'll make it to production. This WRX concept car is anything but that. Subaru told reporters that this concept car is "near production" and that only a few things will change from future WRX models.

The new design of the WRX concept car shows a powerful leaning towards performance, further distancing the WRX from its Impreza cousin. This concept car is much lower and wider than current WRX models, but still has the turbocharged and all-wheel drive capabilities of other Subaru models. Not really surprising there, but we're still waiting in anticipation to hear the details about what's under the hood. There's the potential that it'll have the same performance engine as the BRZ, meaning for a more sports-car like feel to the WRX that's ready for both track and rally.

What you need to know about the WRX is that it's obvious Subaru is moving towards a sleeker, sportier looking WRX that do justice to the internals.  The concept car has the new hawk-eye shaped lights and a subtler take on the iconic air-intake on the hood. There's also echoes of high-end luxury cars in the square inset grille, massive exhaust outlets, and a rear fascia that screams for attention.

We can't wait to find out more about this new concept for the WRX but we're sure that we're going to see some big changes in the future of the WRX.
