Ever since the Concept Car for the next WRX was unveiled at the New York Autoshow, everyone has been waiting in anticipation to see what the new WRX will look like. A few weeks ago, someone caught a Subaru prototype car on the Nuremberg ring with the telltale air intake that looked like a WRX. Just a few days ago, the same prototype was running around the Mulholland hill, testing out control and acceleration.
You're probably wondering why prototype cars like this one,
which might be a future WRX, are covered in weird paint. The idea is to hide the
lines and design of the car so the competition doesn't know what the new car
really looks like. You'll notice in the video there are tons of cameras around
a bit of pretty remote road up a very steep and winding hill. At least one of
these photographers is a "spy" for another car manufacturer and their team will
pour over these photos for days trying to figure out exactly what the future
WRX might look like.
If you're like us, you can't wait for the new WRX to come
out. There's been a lot of discussion about what it might look like and it's
clear it won't be losing the telltale air intake for which the WRX is famous.
But compared to the concept car, the future WRX looks less like a muscle car
and more like that distinctive Subaru feel of an AWD drive off-roading master.
Of course, this could all change and this WRX could be a ploy to throw off the
competition and drum up some buzz. Only time will tell! In any case, if you're
considering a WRX and like the current look and lineup of features, you might
want to buy the current model instead of waiting to see what happens.
