Cars.com has been testing out the Subaru BRZ for a few months now as part of their long-term fleet of cars. It's a popular choice for car aficionados and is the subject of a number of long-term car reviews because it's such an appealing and fun car to drive.
Fun is one thing -- but when you buy a fun to drive sports car, MPG can take a big toll on your budget.
Some sports cars require you to fuel up constantly because they're
gas-guzzlers. After all, you've got a lot of power under the hood so it can eat
up a lot.
The Subaru BRZ manual 6-speed has MPG estimates at
25 MPG, with the same MPG as some much less fun cars. But people always say
that you don't get that kind of mileage in real life. The fact is, however,
Cars.com has been getting, on average, 26MPG. Others have reported 28MPG. With
a manual transmission, it's really a lot about how smart you are driving the car for good
gas mileage and there's a lot you can control.
The best part about a manual BRZ is you can also let it all
out when you want to give power to the engine. Sure, your MPG will go down when
you're racing around a track as fast as you can but it sure beats the 10MPG other
sports cars get! Cars.com's lowest was above 18MPG, even with rigorous track
testing, so you can expect more affordability from your Subaru BRZ than other
sports cars.
