Perhaps the ultimate collector’s item in the Subaru world is the 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B—the original DNA of the favorite WRX and racing Imprezas that have now evolved into the 2015 WRX. The 22B was a very special Impreza, and only 424 were ever made. Only two are now stateside; most are in Japan. Watch this video to get to know the roots of Subaru’s racing breed:

Subaru made this car to commemorate 40 years of the brand and the third consecutive manufacturers' title for Subaru in the FIA World Rally Championship—Subaru was on a roll and starting to really take the lead in rally driving. That history has evolved into the 2015 WRX, with rally in its blood. Throughout the years of rally racing, Subaru has perfected the modern, everyday version of the 1998 22B so everyone can enjoy the Subaru racing legacy.

The WRX is not the only vehicle that’s benefited from a rallying history. Even the Forester, which is not suited for rally racing but more for families on the go, shows traces of Subaru’s rally heritage. The all-wheel drive system has undergone quite a lot of change since 1998, creating the brilliant system that the Forester is lauded for by critics today. Because Subaru focused on an effective all-wheel drive system for rallying to keep cornering as tight as possible, today’s Forester has an all-wheel drive system that keeps you on the road. Through the demands of rally racing, Subaru learned how to make a great car. It’s a history worth honoring.

Come in and take the new 2015 WRX out for a test drive or try out the Forester’s all-wheel drive system and see firsthand just what the legacy of Subaru has built.
