Subaru sales are up 412% over last year, causing a lot of people to make projections about Subaru's next direction. A poll at Autoblog.com asks if Subaru should go mainstream or if the car maker should stay in the niche of providing perfect cars for drivers who want to get out and find excitement. Unsurprisingly, the poll is overwhelmingly in favor of Subaru staying in a niche market and serving those individuals and their families the best.
So what exactly about Subaru's cars makes them so appealing
to outdoorsy types and dog lovers? It's a combination of rugged ability to get
where you need, versatility for everyday challenges, and the unique features
that make the Subaru stand out in a crowd. After all, why wouldn't you want a
car as unique as you?
Critics think that if Subaru decided to go more mainstream
it would mean sacrificing certain standard features that make Subarus so appealing
to a certain demographic. Competition on an international scale with other car
giants would mean reducing quality for quantity to dominate the market. But we
don't see Subaru taking that stance anytime soon.
Autoblog reported in their article with the poll that Fuji Heavy President Yasuyuki Yoshinaga
said, "We're not a carmaker that can grow as big as Toyota. And even if
we could, reaching that sort of scale would mean we'd stop being Subaru." Subaru owners love their cars so much, why would they change into something else?
We know we can
expect Subaru to keep on making cars that take dog lovers for long walks in the
woods with their canine pals, families to the campground for a weekend of fun,
and you to wherever you want to go safely.
